Celebrating the Light: BK Seabolt, the Happiest Man in America

“In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven” (Matt 5:16 ESV). Sometimes the light within a person is so bright that it impacts everyone in their path. When I came to Collins Family Ministries (Collins) in 2023, I met the man I consider to be the Happiest Man in America, and well maybe he is the happiest man in the world.

A Journey of Faith and Joy

BK Seabolt came to Collins at fourteen years old after a tragic car accident killed his grandpa and left him forever changed. After the accident, BK dealt with anger and frustration, but God moved in his life through Joe and Anne Rackley, the co-founders of Collins. BK did more than pray to have Jesus be the Savior of his life, he allowed Jesus to become his deepest joy. His testimony about the love of Jesus and how it changed him is something I will never get tired of hearing.

First Impressions That Last a Lifetime

Yesterday, BK shared the story of the first time he met Mother Anne Rackley. He said that from that moment on, he knew everything would be okay. Over the years, BK has lived at Collins and served through our recycling program and thrift store. However, the most important role BK has filled is that of the “Mayor of Collins”.

The Many Roles of the Mayor of Collins

As the Mayor of Collins, BK fills many roles. He is our ambassador who tells people how he met Jesus. He is our champion, sharing how living at Collins changed his life. He is our assistant who helps other children in need feel welcomed and safe. He is our historian who recalls memories of the past and our hope sharing the vision of what could be. BK is more than our Mayor at Collins; he is our friend.

A Season of Personal Impact

There have been many seasons in my life, but this season of serving as CEO of Collins Family Ministries is one of the most special because of the personal impact BK has had on me. His joy has given me a renewed sense of purpose and courage. On April 18th, we will celebrate BK Seabolt, the “Mayor of Collins,” with a BBQ at Utica Baptist Church.
