Made to Stand the Test of Time
There was a time in our not-so-distant past when we made things that were built to last. My parents moved into their new brick ranch home on Coffee Road in Westminster, South Carolina, in 1972. Not long after, they bought a brand-new Sears washer and dryer. When I left home in 1991, that washer and dryer were still running strong because they were built to last.
A Disposable Culture
In our disposable culture, it is becoming harder and harder to find things that stand the test of time. Furniture, appliances, cars, and even cell phones cost a lot of money, yet many are designed with a limited lifespan. As a result, our landfills continue to grow, filled with things that were once considered valuable but have quickly become obsolete.
When the Disposable Mindset Goes Deeper
Sadly, this mindset can affect more than the things we own. We live in a world that often treats commitments, relationships, and even people as disposable. When something becomes difficult, inconvenient, or requires sacrifice, the temptation is to move on to something new. Yet the greatest things in life have never been built that way. Strong marriages, healthy families, thriving communities, and meaningful ministries are all the result of patience, perseverance, and long-term investment.
Investing in People
At Collins Family Ministries, we want to be known for building things that last. We are not simply operating programs or hosting events. We are investing in people. We are building intentional relationships rooted in honesty, trust, accountability, and genuine care. We believe that lasting impact happens in one conversation, one act of kindness, and one faithful step at a time.
Built on a Solid Foundation
The truth is that anything worth building requires a solid foundation. Jesus said that the wise man built his house upon the rock. When the storms came, the house stood firm because its foundation was secure. In the same way, we want every aspect of our ministry to be grounded in the unchanging truth of God's Word and the transforming power of His love.
A Legacy Worth Leaving Behind
The vision behind Built to Last is not simply to create something that survives for a few years. Our prayer is to build a legacy that points people to Christ for generations to come. Long after buildings age and programs change, the lives touched by God's grace will endure for eternity. That is what truly lasts. That is what we are building. And by God's grace, that is a legacy worth leaving behind.
