Over the weekend, two of our students were baptized as an expression of their faith in Christ. In the last year and a half, we have seen six of our kids and one mom we serve follow Christ's example. That outward profession of faith is just one small glimpse into the deep-rooted change we have a front-row seat to.
When a child comes to Collins Family Ministries, the initial days and weeks can be difficult, but that is short-term thinking. Here at Collins, we are in it for the long haul. Our long-haul mentality acknowledges that there will be deep joy and great pain. It allows us to extend profound grace, see beyond today's mistakes, and see the masterpiece God is creating.
This is not easy, but it is necessary, and I am blessed to serve with an amazing team that lives out their love for Christ in a way many never do. I frequently observe our team members praying with and for one another and those we serve. I have seen our team wipe the tears from a child's face, cry with a parent as they place a child in our care, and carry the burdens of others in the most difficult of times.
Our team at Collins is small, but they are mighty through the power of the Holy Spirit. They do not complain or blame; they simply serve those in need. In Matthew 26:11, Jesus reminds us that "the poor will always be with us." This passage is a constant reminder that, according to Jesus, our work is never done.
Jesus had the same long-haul mentality I see in our team. Jesus established a culture of care, and we have the undeserved privilege to carry on! While the burden of care can come with tears that drive us to our knees, they can also be a catalyst proven through lasting life change.
To those who wonder if God still exists and if Jesus is real, I say yes, absolutely. I see Him every single day in the eyes of those who serve as members of our Board, staff, and volunteers and who do great things for those whom God brings into our midst. Today, I encourage you to do great things for the least of those God brings into your path.
