45 Years of Faith, Family, and Transformation
In 1980, the work of Collins Family Ministries took root when Joe and Anne Rackley, along with their daughter Kim, opened their home to serve children in need. However, it was not a sudden decision. Before opening their home, the Rackleys spent four years in prayer, planning, and seeking God's purpose for their lives. These four years were crucial, as they allowed the Rackleys to gather information and set a strong foundation for what could be in Oconee County.
I am thankful the Rackleys had that time. Those moments of seeking God allowed them to build a firm foundation that stands strong, even today. Over the last 45 years, Collins has withstood the test of time, serving over 500 children along the way. While 500 may seem like a large number, the impact of what God has done is far greater than that.
I recently had the opportunity to interview two of those we served at Collins. During these interviews, I learned that both women had gone on to have successful marriages, wonderful children, and had broken the cycle of family dysfunction. Their lives were transformed by the love of God, which poured through the Rackley family. As I watched the videos we captured during the interviews, it occurred to me that the level of sacrifice required to serve even one child is — and has always been — worth it.
While I wish I could say that every child who has come through our doors or participated in one of our SHINE programs has a transformational story, that wouldn't be accurate. The truth is that some wounds are so deep they require a lifetime of work to heal. The good news is that our team is here for those we serve, even after they graduate from a program or age out of a home. Our commitment to their well-being doesn't end with a program or a certain age.
As a reminder, the Rackleys originally consisted of a family of three. They expanded in number due to the love and generosity of a community that recognized a need and chose to make a difference. Today, we need you now more than ever as the needs of our community continue to grow. Your willingness to pray for those we serve, engage in serving opportunities, and provide financial support is crucial. You are an integral part of our mission, and we couldn't do it without you.
