A Culture of Love
At Collins Family Ministries, we provide a range of services to children, at-risk youth, and families, including shelter services within the Children’s Home and life coaching for at-risk youth who participate in our SHINE program.
Our goal—to embody the love of Christ by giving compassion to families facing hardship—is lofty; however, it is not impossible. Time after time, I have seen our staff step up to comfort, serve, and empower families and children. The culture of showing love to those in need is an opportunity we all embrace with deep joy.
Love in Action
The decision to place a child at Collins is never easy, but it is often the best decision, made in response to a momentary crisis. This decision, while difficult, is a testament to the impact of our work on the community. Our staff, with love and grace, serves families in need and each other. The work of assisting families through our Children’s Home service is a collective effort that stretches us all.
The culture of love continues to empower us to provide love and hope during the most challenging moments. Recently, we had a single mom reach out to us about placing her preschooler at Collins. She had lost her housing and wanted to make sure that her child was safe and well cared for while she looked for work and a new place to live.
Moments like these are why we exist. No, it is not easy, but it is the purest form of love. The culture of love runs so deep at Collins that we often see our current resident children stepping up to assist the new kids. Last week, I saw one of our older elementary school kids assisting our newest preschooler off the bus.
It was a heartwarming moment! I witnessed our older elementary school resident assisting our new preschooler with such care and kindness. The older child held both their backpacks and the younger child’s hand, ensuring they safely descended the steep bus stairs. My heart was filled with joy, and I couldn’t wait to express my gratitude to the older child for their selfless act of kindness.
Living Out Christ’s Call
The staff, kids, board members, and donors at Collins get it! From time to time, we all need help, encouragement, and a kind word. The Apostle Paul says it like this:
“God has chosen you and made you his holy people. He loves you. So, your new life should be like this: Show mercy to others. Be kind, humble, gentle, and patient.” (Col 3:12 Easy Reader Version)
If you are looking for a place where the love and kindness of Christ can shine, we invite you to be part of Collins Family Ministries. Your support, whether through volunteering, donations, or simply spreading the word, is crucial in our mission to show love to our community.
