Faith-Fueled Compassion in Dark Times
Over the last month, there has been a lot of heavy news. Every headline and social media post is full of tragedy, anger, and misunderstandings. In those moments, it’s easy for us to become rigid and judgmental. Make no mistake, our world is in an active state of decline, and if we are not careful, our focus can continually be skewed in a negative direction. In these moments, I am thankful for my faith in Christ, which keeps me centered amidst all of life’s storms.
Within the turmoil of the past month, I have witnessed the profound impact of Collins Family Ministries. Our dedicated staff has been a beacon of hope, tirelessly working to support families, care for children, and bring light to even the darkest moments. Here are two heartwarming instances that underscore the incredible work of our small but mighty team.
Last week, our ministry services team heard about a mom who lost her housing. As a result, she was staying in a hotel with her children. While this mom was not looking to place her kids at Collins, she needed information about additional resources in our community. We were able to provide her with that information as well as deliver food and snacks to her and the kids.
In another moment, I saw our team go above and beyond for a mom who was experiencing homelessness. In this case, the mom did desire to place her daughter at our girls’ home while she works to find a job and reliable housing for their family. Our team provided shelter to the young girl and compassion to a mom who had never spent a night away from her sweet girl. There were tears, yes, but there was also an abundance of love for mom and daughter.
At Collins Family Ministries, we serve children from birth-18 through our children’s home program, we serve at-risk young adults from 18-25 by providing life skills and one-on-one coaching through our SHINE program, and we give strength to families by pointing them to the truth of God’s Word. Our work is a testament to the power of faith in action. So, while the world may feel heavy and a little out of control, never forget that Jesus is the source of our hope and strength! (Isaiah 40:31)
