Creating Memories That Last a Lifetime
Some of my most cherished childhood memories revolve around family vacations. We didn’t travel every year, but when we did, those times became unforgettable—not for the destinations, but for the laughter, togetherness, and moments that shaped who I am. Splashing in the pool, feeling the sand between our toes, and sharing simple picnics—these are the memories that truly matter.
When Vacation Feels Out of Reach
But for most of the children living at Collins Family Ministries, these kinds of vacation memories are out of reach. Through no fault of their own, their families often struggle just to provide food, shelter, and clothing—making the idea of a family trip a distant dream.
A Summer to Remember
Yet, because of your generosity and the kindness of Garden City Chapel, something extraordinary happened a few weeks ago. We loaded up the van and took the kids to the beach. For many, it was their first glimpse of the ocean—a moment of awe that can only be experienced once. This annual trip has become a cherished tradition, creating a summer highlight for hundreds of children on our campus.
At the beach, laughter echoed as the kids tried new games, worked together on three challenging puzzles—including a 1,500-piece masterpiece—and simply enjoyed the freedom to be kids. Beyond the beach, the incredible generosity of Camp Chatuga means every child here can experience the magic of summer camp. Living in a children’s home comes with challenges, but these joyful memories help mend hearts and give hope.
The Lasting Impact of Generosity
We may never fully grasp the impact these opportunities have on the children we serve. But I witnessed pure joy at the water park, wide-eyed wonder on the roller coaster, fierce competition around the card table, and relentless determination as the puzzle came together—1,500 pieces in just two days.
This year, because of the unwavering love and support from this community, Garden City Chapel and Camp Chatuga helped create memories that will last a lifetime—memories that may change lives.
